SCIENCE CLUB

SESO High School and Middle School Science Teams

SESO has a haven for Science lovers in their Science Teams. The High School (Grades 9-10) has two (2) teams with alternates and the Middle School (6-8 graders) does also. They meet twice a cycle and every time they have a chance in order to prep up their Science knowledge and exalt their competitiveness. They consistently participate in Science Bowls at other schools mainly in San Juan/Dorado area. This is an opportunity to mix with other students that have similar interests and are goal driven. It provides an invaluable perspective of what the future will hold in the Science fields in Puerto Rico.

SHPE Jr

This organization has been around for six (6) years and is associated to the SHPE RUM Chapter. It is responsible of hosting the SESO Invitational Science Bowl annually. Alongside the Science Club, it boasts the highest number of energetic members. They attend conferences, participate in field excursions to areas teeming with science, incur in environmental activities and sponsor Soccer Intramural. If you are interested in Science but competitions are not your cup of tea, this is a great, dynamic option.

Biotechnology Club

This club is quite recent. It involves an outreach to university level professors or scientists who provide cutting edge conferences on hot topics in Science. The conferences are open to the school community but focuses on members of Science clubs. In October, Dr. Castro gave a conference focusing on student research at the RUM and their presentation outside the island. Dr. Resto will be speaker for the November upcoming conference “Lab on a Chip”. This maintains students abreast of the importance of these miniature developed devices in the field of nanotechnology that has all scientists excited.
