ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Elementary School provides follow-up and continuation for SESO students who emerge from our Pre-School Program and provides the opportunity of adaptation through the SSL programs for students from other schools who join us at a more advanced level of instruction. Students develop academic and social skills through formal classes, participation in clubs, tournaments, fairs and sports activities.

Language Arts Instruction

All students are required to study English and Spanish beginning in Kindergarten. Students that enter after first grade may be placed in English or Spanish as a second language classes, as necessary. The goal of the second language programs is to develop language survival skills for immediate application while building a solid foundation for placement in a first language class as soon as possible.

First grade students have access to an Early Intervention Program, which was implemented to ensure that greatest number of first grade students finish the year with grade level skills. Students in grades 4-8 have access to the after school English Resource Program. Grade level teachers recommend students that need to boost language skills. Teachers use an informal reading-writing workshop format to motivate participants.
